Hey there! I'm `Poet., obviously xD I basically use Photoshop for my manips., but I am fairly flexible and have GIMP downloaded if I need to use it for a reference when teaching. I'm honestly not a strict teacher. Finish assignments when you want, as long as it's within a reasonable time period. If you're going to be absent for a while (which is okay), please just let me know. :]
And now, for your first assignment, I'm going to simply have you cut out a horse. (I've been doing this with all of my students; just going over the basics. This way, I can see what you already know.) I'd like you to use this horse: chunga-stock.deviantart.com/art/148-WB-trot-140137220?q=gallery%3AChunga-Stock%2F25777471&qo=187Once you've cut out the horse, I'd like you to put it on a colored background, preferably some shade of light purple. (There's a reason for my color choices, trust me xD) Then you can save it, upload it to the site of your choice (dA, TinyPic, etc.), and give me the link here in your reply! Please remember to save the image in two ways. One, save it as a PSD.file so that you can go back and edit it later. Two, just save it as a JPEG. If you have any questions, please let me know! Thanks, Poet <3 P.S. Do you have a dA account? Just curious - if you do, I'll watch you so we can keep in touch :3

i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj224/rei95776/trot.pngSorry it took so long, I cut it out twice because I was so unhappy with it the first time. Yes I saved it as png but no worries I have a psd of it to so I can go back and re-save it as a jpeg if necessary. I didn't know what you wanted me to do with the tail so I cut it off since I can always paint it in. And yes I know I messed up the back legs, have mercy on me oh great poet D: My current DA: littletoysoldier.deviantart.com/For the record I've never permanently stuck with an account before but if I change accounts again I'll let you know. I'm pretty sure I already watched you using that account but tell me if I didn't so I can.

Looks great! (And don't worry about it taking a while. I take days to make manipulations xD) Tell me: what did you use to cut the horse out? The eraser? Pen tool? Lasso tool?

well on the first try (the one I hated) I used the lasso tool and on that one I used the eraser in GIMP. I can use the lasso tool, the eraser and the pen tool to cut out subjects in both photoshop and GIMP however I suck at using the pen tool and I'm far more comfortable with the eraser than anything else.

Um are we allowed to pass on assignments? The photoshop pen tool hates me and GIMP is being moody :x

Only one? D: um... alright I'll do this assignment but I'm holding you to this. In the future I'm allowed to skip one assignment of my choice. *goes to mess around with the pen tool in GIMP*

Lol, okayyy. Free pass accepted ;3 Now I'm going to have you smudge the horse! Duplicate the horse layer, just in case. I'd recommend taking the smudge tool at a fairly high rate 50 - 90 (in GIMP), or 40 percent in Photoshop. Then just smudge all over the body, taking care to make the horse as smooth as possible. You can use this tutorial to help - it shows the various directions and techniques: i55.tinypic.com/2n060xu.jpgThen, after you're done, lower the opacity a bit, so that it doesn't look so plasticy. Please PM me if you have any questions! Thanks! <333
