Heya! Thanks so much for applying to be a student on Mayhem Studios - I look forward to working with you! Just a quick introduction... I'm Poet, obviously, but you can call me anything you want xD I use Photoshop, but I do have GIMP downloaded so that I can reference it if I need to, when teaching :3 I'm very flexible on assignment due-dates. I'm very busy with schoolwork and such, so I completely understand if you don't finish your assignments right away. If you're going to be absent for more than a few days, though, I would appreciate it if you could tell me, just so that I know you haven't fallen off the face of the earth xD So, let's get started! ----- Your first assignment is to cut out a horse. I don't care what tool you use - just try and make sure that your cutting isn't too choppy (especially on long parts such as the stomach and back.) I find that the pen tool is really helpful to get smooth lines, but if you don't feel comfortable using it, then by all means, use something else. I'd like you to use this horse: venomxbaby.deviantart.com/art/mellow-1-161170686?q=boost%3Apopular+in%3Aresources+palomino&qo=176If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, either by PM or on this thread. Thanks! - Poet

Wow, that's awesome! It looks really nice! Good job on the cutting - very smooth. I can't really see any choppy bits anywhere *squints* Oh, nope. Looks perfect. I do notice one thing, though. I see some pink on the horse. Just curious, how did that get on the horse? Haha. That's okay, because your next assignment is smudging the horse's body. So that'll essentially get rid of the pink parts. And if it doesn't, well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it xD Oh, and nice job on the tail! The only thing I can critique is that you should try and drag out some longer, thicker pieces of the tail, rather than just having a ton of short, little flyaways, like this: i56.tinypic.com/2dmi8u0.jpg------------- Anyway, like I said earlier, your next assignment is smudging the body of the horse. Use this technique if possible: i55.tinypic.com/2n060xu.jpgI know it's a different horse (used for one of my other students), but it gives you the main ideas. So, set your smudging rate pretty high. I'd say 30 - 80. Just make it high enough so that it looks like the last horse, in the tutorial that I just gave you. Now, I realize that that horse looks almost plasticy. Once you're done smudging, lower the opacity so that it still looks soft, but doesn't look like a Barbie doll horse anymore xD If some of the details are lost (because of lack of sharpness), that's fine. We'll go back and fix it later on :] Good luck, and please PM me if you need anything! <3

Ohmygod, I'm so sorry. I've been so busy that I haven't had time to get back to you. Forgive me? D: Gah, I know. I fail Anyway... Let me just say this. THAT IS AMAZING. Are you psychic or something? 'cause you read my mind! That looks exactly how I wanted it to! Not oversmudged, or plastic-looking, but it's enough to reduce a lot of the noise/pixels. Perfect, perfect job. --- Now, I realize that you've already made a manipulation with that horse, so I'm going to give you a choice. Do you want to make another one with it, or do you want to just move on to something else? Your choice! I don't mind, either way. I just don't want to force you to make another manip with that horse if you don't want to :3 Thanks! <3

Sure! Let's go ahead and smudge that horse, and I'll start looking for a couple backgrounds to choose from. Then we'll work on actually making the horse look like it's there, blending, etc.
Thanks! <3
